Available Surface Finishes

As-Machined Finish

This is the fastest turnaround surface finish option. The part surface will retain visible tool marks, and may have sharp
edges and burrs, which can be removed if needed. The surface roughness is equivalent to 125 microinches (μin) Ra.

Shot Blasting

Typically, glass beads are used for media blasting on the part surface, resulting in a smooth matte appearance.

Anodizing (Type II or Type III)

Type II: Forms a corrosion-resistant surface layer. Parts can be anodized in a variety of colors, with clear, black, red,
and gold being the most common. This finish is typically suitable for aluminum parts.
Type III: Has a thicker oxide layer than Type II. In addition to the corrosion resistance of Type II, it also forms a
wear-resistant layer.

Powder Coating

Type II: Forms a corrosion-resistant surface layer. Parts can be anodized in a variety of colors, with clear, black, red,
and gold being the most common. This finish is typically suitable for aluminum parts.
Type III: Has a thicker oxide layer than Type II. In addition to the corrosion resistance of Type II, it also forms a
wear-resistant layer.

Custom Surface Finishes

If you cannot find the required surface finish, please submit a Request for Quote (RFQ), and we will research the appropriate surface treatment process for you.

Advantages Of CNC Milling

CNC milling machine head producing precision metal parts with tight tolerances and high surface quality
Fast Delivery

With the latest CNC milling technology, EPTAHUB can produce high-precision parts with fast delivery, as quick as 1 day.
Additionally, we provide instant quotes for CNC milled parts, saving you days in the Request for Quote (RFQ) process.

High-Precision Tolerance

CNC milling can achieve high-precision tolerance control, including tolerances below ±0.001 inches. We are a professional team that manufactures truly customized and ready-to-use parts.

Scalability

The CNC milling process is ideal for both prototyping and mass production of CNC parts. EPTAHUB's strong scale advantage helps you smoothly transition from the testing phase to mass production of 100,000 pieces or more.

Wide Range Of Material Options

Powder coating is sprayed onto the part surface, and then the part is baked in an oven. This finish creates a durable, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant coating on the part surface, which is more durable than standard painting processes. A variety of color options are available to meet the desired appearance.

CNC Milling Tolerances And Standards

Description General Tolerance or Standard
Maximum Part Size Milled parts can be up to 80 inches × 48 inches × 24 inches (2032 mm × 1219 mm × 610 mm)
Dimensional Tolerance For size dimensions (length, width, height, diameter) and location dimensions (position, concentricity, symmetry), the tolerance is ±0.005 inches.
Orientation and Form Tolerance For dimensions ranging from 0 - 12 inches, the tolerance is ±0.005 inches, and the angle tolerance is 0.5 degrees. For dimensions of 24 inches and above, please refer to the EPTAHUB Manufacturing Standards.
Precision Tolerance EPTAHUB can manufacture and inspect parts with precision tolerances, including tolerances below ±0.001 inches, according to your drawing specifications and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
Minimum Feature Size The minimum feature size is 0.020 inches (0.50 mm). This size may vary depending on the part geometry and selected material.
Threads and Threaded Holes EPTAHUB can machine various standard thread sizes. Custom threads are also available, but they require manual quote review.
Surface Roughness The standard surface finish is as-machined, with a roughness of up to 125 Ra or better. Additional surface finish options can be specified when requesting a quote.
Edge Condition By default, sharp edges will be chamfered and deburred. If certain critical edges must remain sharp, they need to be indicated on the drawing with clear markings.

For detailed tolerance information corresponding to each process, please refer to the EPTAHUB Manufacturing Standards. Unless other tolerance requirements are agreed upon in your quote, we will produce and control according to the tolerances specified above.

CNC Milling Machine Basics

A CNC milling machine is an automated cutting device that removes excess material through a rotating spindle head. CNC milling machines come in various sizes and different axis configurations. This manufacturing process is mainly used for cutting harder metals, but can also process a variety of workpiece materials, from plastics and aluminum alloys to stainless steel and titanium alloys.

How CNC Milling Works

CNC milling machines excel at contour cutting of harder materials. Like all CNC equipment, CNC milling machines are controlled by G-code generated by Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software. G-code instructs the machine on how to move the tool head, the rotational speed of the tool, the cutting depth, the movement of the workpiece, and other parameters related to speed, feed rate, and coordinated movements. The complexity of the G-code depends on the number of axes of the milling machine.

Milling machines can also be used for contour cutting of softer materials, but they are not as cost-effective as CNC engraving machines in this regard. The main difference between the two devices is: when a CNC engraving machine is processing, the workpiece remains fixed, and the engraving tool head moves around the workpiece; while a CNC milling machine may move both the tool head and the workpiece. CNC milling machines are mainly used in industrial manufacturing, while CNC engraving machines are more common in low-volume manufacturing fields such as woodworking.

Types of CNC Milling Machines

3-Axis Milling Machine

This is the most widely used type of CNC milling machine. Making full use of the movement in the X, Y, and Z directions,
3-axis CNC milling machines can be applied to a variety of machining tasks.

4-Axis Milling Machine

This type of equipment can rotate around the vertical axis, enabling more continuous machining operations by moving
the workpiece.

5-Axis Milling Machine

In addition to the traditional three axes, this type of equipment is additionally equipped with two rotating axes. Therefore,
the 5-axis CNC equipment can machine five sides of the workpiece in one machining process without removing and
repositioning the workpiece. During machining, the workpiece rotates, and the spindle head can also move around
the workpiece. 5-axis milling machines are larger in size and more expensive.

Other Advantages Of CNC Milling Process

CNC milling machines are designed for high-precision manufacturing and repeatable production, making them ideal for rapid prototyping and small to large batch production runs. CNC milling machines can also process a variety of materials, from basic aluminum alloys and plastics to special materials such as titanium alloys, making them ideal for almost all machining needs.
