The choice of materials directly affects the performance, cost and application scope of CNC turning parts. EPTAHUB provides a variety of metal and plastic materials to meet different project needs.
EPTAHUB offers a wide range of materials covering aluminum alloys, brass/bronze, copper, plastics, steel, titanium alloys and zinc, each with multiple specific varieties to adapt to different performance requirements. In addition, more alloys and temper conditions are available upon request. We can purchase materials according to your project specifications.
Instant online quoting is available for all types of CNC turned metal and plastic parts. If you cannot find the required stock material, select "Other" from the material drop-down menu on the quoting page, and submit after clarifying part features, tolerance requirements, inspection needs and required quantity. Our professional engineering team will conduct an evaluation.
Since CNC technology can be applied to almost all materials, it is very suitable for rapid tooling, i.e., making fixtures or molds.
CNC turning has a variety of material choices, low unit cost and fast production speed, making it an ideal choice for prototyping.
CNC lathe turning technology can achieve high-quality surface treatment, provide a variety of material choices and precise tolerance control, making it well suited for mass production parts.
For detailed tolerance information of each process, please refer to EPTAHUB Manufacturing Standards. Unless other tolerance requirements are agreed upon in the quotation, we will process and ensure that the tolerance meets the above standards.
CNC lathes (also known as turret lathes) are very suitable for processing various symmetrical cylindrical or spherical parts. Its typical feature is that the lathe drives the workpiece to rotate through vertical or horizontal axes, while the fixed forming tool moves around the workpiece along a roughly straight path. The process of cutting a workpiece on a CNC lathe is called turning.
CNC lathes adopt a subtractive machining method to shape the desired shape. First, G-code is generated, and then the bar stock is loaded into the chuck of the lathe spindle. The chuck fixes the workpiece, and the spindle drives the workpiece to rotate. When the spindle reaches the set speed, the fixed cutting tool is brought into contact with the workpiece, and material is removed until the desired geometric shape is obtained.
Turret lathes can perform a variety of machining operations, including facing, threading, knurling, drilling, boring, reaming and taper turning. Different machining operations require tool changes, which may increase costs and setup time. After all machining operations are completed, the part is cut from the blank for subsequent post-processing. After that, the CNC lathe can repeat the next machining operation with little or no setup time.
There are various types of CNC lathes, among which the most common are 2-axis CNC lathes and Swiss-type lathes. The unique feature of Swiss-type lathes is that the blank is fed through a guide bushing, allowing the tool to cut close to the support point. This design makes it particularly suitable for processing slender CNC lathe parts and micro-machined parts. Some Swiss-type lathes are also equipped with a second turret, which can be used as a CNC milling machine and can perform multiple machining operations on the same equipment without transferring the workpiece to other equipment. Therefore, for the processing of complex turning parts, Swiss-type lathes are a cost-effective CNC lathe processing equipment choice.
Similar to CNC milling machines, CNC lathes are easy to set up and have high repeatability, so they can be used for rapid prototyping and production from small to large batches. Multi-axis CNC turning centers and Swiss-type lathes can complete multiple machining operations on the same equipment. For complex geometric parts that require multiple equipment or multiple tool changes on traditional CNC milling machines, this kind of equipment is a cost-effective choice.
